Electric Marine Toilet

Electric Marine Toilets by Raritan

The wide variety of Electric marine toilets can make the decision on which to choose challenging. The first and most important aspect of choosing a marine toilet is to determine how much space you have. Many boats are built with a step so the area to mount must be taken into consideration. In addition to the area where the toilet will be mounted you must also consider the height of the bowl. A 12” height may sound low but when you have an 8” “step” where the toilet is mounted you could end up with your feet dangling. Once you know how much area then the other choices begin to take shape.

After determining the size it is best to consider the water source. Onboard freshwater is preferred by many as it helps to eliminate the unpleasant odors often associated with salt and brackish water. The salt and brackish water tend to have more organisms living in it than freshwater areas. These organisms get into the rim of the bowl and die. When you leave your boat for a period of time and then return to flush the smell can be overwhelming. Should outside raw water be the most practical there are options to either treat the incoming water or order a unit that allows flushing with both raw water and onboard freshwater (Our Seafresh option).

Noise is the most common complaint for recreational users of marine toilets. Our macerators are all designed for low sound levels. Onboard freshwater units are the least likely to affect your sleeping guests since there is no intake pump. However, great improvements have been made in the raw water pumps over the years and even when using a raw water pump the toilets are very quiet. However, as with all motors mounting is key inside a boat. You will want to consider the mounting surface and what vibration from that surface might affect.

Raritan makes some of the best macerating toilets on the market. When the biggest complaint from your distributors is that they don’t sell enough spare parts you know you must be doing something right. The SeaEra offers a base similar to many models installed by builders. However some design differences make it a more sanitary unit than the competition. We have separated any incoming water from the discharge area so there is no possibility of cross contamination. We certainly don’t think you want to be flushing your waste water thru the bowl if a seal fails.

The Marine Elegance and the Atlantes both boast the Vortex-Vac flushing action. This is a highly efficient macerator that generates the vacuum within the bowl to efficiently move the waste down the line. Both toilets are capable of moving waste over 90’ in a straight run. The only difference in the units are their distinctly different bowls.

All electric toilets offer a variety of flush control options. The Atlantes boasts a handle just like home so that your guests are not terrified of going into the head and not knowing how to flush. That handle can be either timed or momentary. The top of the line smart toilet control is available for most of the toilets and allows 4 flushing options: 1) Intake water only 2) Discharge only 3) regular flush which sequences the flushing to reduce water consumption and optimal performance 3) water saver flush when there is not as much to send down the line. Most models also allow for the most economical version which is simply a push button switch.

Conserving Fresh water on Electric Marine Toilets

For those who want to conserve their fresh water and use raw water for flushing while at sea, Raritan has our Sea-Fresh option available for all of the electric toilets. Our Sea fresh option allows use of raw water flushing while in use and fresh water flushing before short term or long term storage or at dock where plenty of fresh water is available.

Electric Marine Toilet Innovations

Raritan has been leader in marine toilet innovations for over 50 years. Raritan was the first to use engineering polymer for manual head PHII instead of bronze. Raritan was the first to introduce a “macerating” toilet with the Crown Head. Raritan introduced a Chlorinator/Macerator, which was the first sewage treatment available for boats and was available in marine application even before the EPA regulation for Marine sanitation devices was introduced. Our one piece china Atlantes toilet using household type handle operation was first introduced by Raritan.

Our small foot print Marine Elegance toilet using less water and low power in its class was a first for the Marine Industry. Using Vortex-Vac technology to eliminate remote vacuum pumps is also one of the elements that are unique to Raritan toilets. A unique mounting arrangement offered in our Marine Elegance is another first in the boating industry. Raritan electric toilets utilize a diaphragm pump instead of short life rubber impeller pump for inlet pump is only available on Raritan toilets which uniquely distinguishes us from our competition.

Touchless flushing for marine electric toilet was a first in marine industry and exclusively available from Raritan.  Raritan is the only manufacturer to offer a choice of Sea and Fresh water flushing in same toilet with just a flip of a switch.

All boat toilets are easy to clean and maintain. Certified Installers NOT REQUIRED.
They can be used with Electro Scan or PurasanEx Type I MSD’s or Managerm Type II.

Raritan is still the most dependable name on the water when it comes to reliability, service and innovation.

Additional Things to Consider for Electric Marine Toilets

Any boat with an installed toilet must have either a Type I MSD which treats the waste and makes it safe for overboard discharge, a Type II MSD used for the same purpose as a Type I but treats to higher standard and is typically designed for vessels over 65′ or a holding tank Type III MSD. All waste water inside the three mile limit requires treatment or holding of the waste. A complete list of Federal No Discharge Zones can be found on the EPA web site.

Power Consumption

When choosing high quality marine products such as a marine toilet, remember to look at overall power consumption. Many manufacturers make claims that their units draw very low amps. A low amp draw for a long period of time means overall consumption may be higher than a unit that draws more amps.

Water Use

Very low water use normally equates to poor performance when removing anything other than liquid from the bowl. The easier it is for people to use your marine toilets means the less trouble you will have with it.
